"Only gave a two stars because the design is much better than way back when, otherwise it would have been 1 star. The pain is just the same as the older models. They said it would feel different, but like my husband said, what part of pulling hair out by the roots would be different? Pulling hair out by roots will be painful any way you look at it. My daughter told me to get it because if I didn't use it, she'd withstand the pain and promised to use it, even if it hurt. She changed her mind rather quickly after trying. Had to send back:("

"After reading the reviews I decided to give it a try. I figured if it was too painful, I would simply return it and be satisfied that I at least gave it a try. I honestly expected a lot more pain then it caused. It was no worse than tweezing. I am very happy I tried it."

"TAKE IT FROM A TRUE SKEPTIC WHO NEVERS BUYS ANYTHING OFF TV. LADIES THIS WORKS. ITS THE PERFECT SIZE. YES IT HURTS A LITTLE BUT U GET OVER IT . I HAVE VERY FUZZY CHEEKS AND SIDEBURNS; NOT QUITE ELVIS BUT AFTER USING THIS THE FIRST TIME I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. IM VERY INSECURE ABOUT THE HAIR ON MY FACE. IT ALSO GETS THE LITTLE WHISKERS ON UR CHIN N NECK. TRIED IT ON MY ARM A LITTLE AT A TIME BEFORE I WAS BRAVE ENOUGH BUT NO BIGGIE . GOING TO DO MY ARMS TOO. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE PAIN BUT TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ALL THAT HAIR IS SOOOOO WORTH THE DISCOMFORT. AFTERALL IT IS PULLING HAIR GIRLS. I PLAN ON EVENTUALLY TRYING MY LEGS AFTER I GET MY FACE AND ARMS WHERE I WANT THEM TO BE. DONT THINK ILL TRY UNDER ARMS.."

"I have tried other versions of this and have sent them back. I was watching the on-air presentation and decided to give it one more try. OMG, I am so glad I did. I am afflicted with hair on my toes; not quite Sasquatch. After shaving, the stubble is back the next day. Not with this. It has been almost 2 weeks and the hair is just coming back! Definitely worth the slight pain. I haven't been able to get over the pain under the arm yet, but I will keep trying. Great buy!"

"Was introduced to an epilator by my cousin. Was trying to come up with a shaving alternative for my pre-teen daughter. Now we are both converted over and will never pick up a razor. This did hurt the first time we used it. But it was fast and very effective. Now 4 months later, no pain and smooth skin on our legs and underarms. We use it about once a week. What I like best is that u dont have to wait for ur hair legs to get to a certain length, like waxing, for the hairs to grab. Its great for travel too and when ur in a hurry. Very happy with this machine."

"This is fabulous! I used it immediately and was pleasantly surprised, it pinched a little but really it is more painful when I use tweezers! I used it on those pesky hairs on your chin that seem to pop out at the most awful times! It did a beautiful job and then I tried it on the soft tiny hairs above my lip and on my chin line (you can't really see them but when you put on makeup they are noticeable). Perfect! My Bare Ecentials goes on so much nicer now! One thing I would recommend is that you don't push hard, Use it lightly and it works better ie. doesn't leave any red marks and there is less chance of ingrown hair! This product is for legs but really does a great job on faciel hair also!"

"My girlfriend bought one, its a different brand from hammacher schlemmer and it costs more than this one does. I thought I was going to get the better deal but after going over the same area repeatedly, i grew frustrated seeing that the hair wasn't being pulled out. My leg hair is soft and sporadic, it doesn't look like fur, so I don't understand why it wasn't working well. I'm sending this back and buying the one my friend uses."

"OMG!! I LOVEEEEEE My Epilady!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate shaving but still like smooth legs, so I became an activist after my friend showed me Epilady. I will NEVER go back to shaving. My favorite part is I can use this and don't have to worry about my legs for a whole month - can you say time saver!?!"

"I have a smaller travel version of the EpiLady and while it does hurt...it works! I find that coarse hair on my chin and along my jawline grows back more slowly. That's great! But you have to be patient, have a fairly high tolerance for some pain/discomfort, and understand that this is requires repeated "go-overs" to ensure hair is removed. It DOES work; just don't expect a pain-free miracle. I prefer this hair remover over a razor, and use this whenever I see a hair. That said, sometimes I tweeze when this doesn't work -- but then, so does the woman I go to sometimes for waxing that hair! I'd recommend this as a worthwhile at-home hair remover."

"I was watching Lisa Robertson sell a different epilator. She raved about them and says that's all she uses. I thought that was unusual, she has lots of other choices and let's face it, most of us shave. But tweezing hair is far more effective to shaving for many reasons. As a licensed cosmetologist I know that shaved hair grows back stubbly, because the end of the hair is shaved off square. While tweezed hair grows back in its natural form - pointed at the end, making it smoother/softer as it grows in. Tweezing also subltly destroys the follicle, over time, preventing its growth. That's why women lose their eyebrows from over tweezing. I gave this a shot and yes it hurts (but not horribly), but after the endorphins kicked in I was able to complete both legs and both arms in one sitting. The trick is to stop when it becomes too much, and then CONTINUE. Now I'm addicted! And it does get better with time. I think the Epilady Epic Chic is the best because its corded, no wait time for a battery to charge, and its ergonomic."

"I am good about trying a product and shipping it back the same day if I don't like it. I almost sent this back. Had I not been going through Laser Hair Removal Sessions on my underarms and bikini area I might have. But I understand the active-phase process of hair growth. It has taken one week of daily use of my Epilady to finally be at the "silky" stage. I use to shave my legs daily. I probably won't have to "Epilady" now for another week... and may even get to the point where I can "Epilady" monthly. Don't give up on this product too soon."

"If you are at all like me, you cannot stand the hastle of shaving every other day. I am an on the go kind of gal and rarely have the time to hastle with hair removal.
However, I started using epilady products a little over a year ago and I cannot get enough! Using this product once a month has really made my busy life a little less stressful. I can throw on a skirt or dress without having to think twice whether my legs need a touch up.
I rave about my Legend Epilady all the time and have given away epiladys as gifts to my mother and aunt; they remembered epilady from when it first came out and were extremely pleased. I think they are even bigger fans than I am!
I cannot believe that this product only has a 2 star rating. If I could give it ten stars, I would. Ladies, using an epilady is a lifestyle change, once you start you will never go back to shaving again! I am no expert, but it has my stamp of approval!"

"I had to laugh when I read someone had tried this 30 years ago and thought it would be different. Don't know about you but if someone is pulling hair out of you - it's going to hurt whether it's today or 10, 20, 30 years from now unless you lose your sense of feel. The awesome thing about this is that I did start using it 20 years ago! With a little patience and doing a little at a time, I found it to be, as somone described, plucking your eyebrow, except it's on your legs, underarms and the bikini area. Now 20 years later and after doing it at first once a month, I can honestly say that now I don't even have to do it but once every 6 months if that! And like someone said, my legs and underarms are as smooth as a baby's bottom. I still remember how I'd always nick myself, especially around the the back of my ankles or behind my knees with a razor. Ouch! This is the most awesome product and after all these years I'm on my 3rd one. I do recommend the corded one. I tried the cordless that was just a matter of charging a battery - but the battery power, to me was not as strong as a corded model. I clearly remember my husband coming home 20 years ago and seeing my scrunched up face when I first started using it. He just said, "You women. What you won't put yourself through." Like I said, give it time and no one said you have to 'de-hair' yourself all at one time. After a few times, I got used to it... just like plucking your eyebrows! Don't give up!"

"I have been using Epilady since I was a teen. Yes, not as quick as a shave but the results last for a whole month - smooth legs as a baby's bottom and no need to worry about nicks and cuts.
I can only advise first timers to stick with it. It takes a few times to get used to the process, learn how to do it (read the instructions that come with) and get used to the sensation which becomes a routine - much like plucking your eye brows.
I would never replace this with shaving or waxing. I also tried other epilators and none were as good.

"This thing needs to be taken off QVC !! It hurts pretty bad it even stings for awhile afterwards I would just rather shave! Dont waste your time or money!! It dont even remove all the hair! For this price it at least should remove the hair! Most certainly deserves a 0 !"

"This was an absolutely horrible experience. It was not only very painful, but it was totally ineffectual. I bought an epilady product about 30 years ago which was not effective, either. I was hoping that it would have changed and that there would have been noticeable improvement over 30 years, but no--it still hurts like the dickens and still doesn't remove the hair. I returned it!!"
