"When I first pruchased this item I thought it was great, but once I really started using it, during a trip to Florida, I started to notice lots of flaws.
First of all, it takes FOREVER for the GPS/Satellites to locate your current position/location so you will drive around in circles for an eternity before it finally calculates your location and takes you were you wanna go!
Secondly, when you enter in your desination the TomTom ALWAYS gives directions that take you on the LONGEST "scenic" route instead of giving you the shortest route. So it will have you travel down back roads and driving around mountains and through forests; when you could have just turned right, hit a U-Turn and arrive at your destination!!
To be 100% honest, if I could turn back time, I never would have purchased this GPS device because it has been almost completely useless to me. Ever since I bought the crazy thing I STILL have to go to Mapquest and print out directions, since my TomTom can't pinpoint my location or get me where I need to go in the shortest amount of time...."

"I purchased this back in December as a Christmas present for my then boyfriend. He was ecstatic and boasted to everyone about how large the screen is. It seemed simple and easy to use and easy to see. I recommend as a gift for any man you know."

"I LOVED MY GPS FROM THE FIRST TIME I USED IT... AND WOULD OF RECCOMENDED TO ANYONE FOR ITS EASE OF USE AND RELIABILTY IN CORRECT DIRECTIONS UNTIL....
I WAS SNAPPING IT BACK INTO THE MOUNTING BRACKED I REMOVE IT FROM MY VAN WHEN NOT USING IT.
I UNTHINKINGLY HAD MY THUMB ON THE SCREEN WHEN I

"My family and I travel several times a year and I like to make sure we don't get lost. We also live in a small town and my children find it so neat, they like riding in the car and having the TomTom turned on. The voice setting are nice and th clarity is awesome. We have had no problems with our TomTom. Would reccommmend to anyone."

"I purchased this and my daughter and her family used it to go out of State on vacation. She said half the time they did not have a signal. At one point she asked where they were and it told her some where in New Jersey... they were on the interstate in South Carolina. I sent it back as defective"

"I am glad that I purchased this system. It does give directions and tell the name of the streets. It has different voices that you can select and not all voices give the street names. It gives you a demo of the route before you actually take the route. Very helpful system."

"I've had this GPS since Christmas.It was working good but the only problem I had with it was that it did not say the name of the streets as it was advertised for.Finaly I decided to call the customer service this morning and the customer service rep told me to get that option I have to set up the voice of GPS to Samantha's voice.I just did that and now it is working fine.Thank you Tom Tom and QVC."

"Wow,, I have had this a month and love it!..I was sceptical at first and mainly used it to get to places I already knew how to get to,, Then I used it to find High school sporting venues for my girls in High school,, incredible,, got me there with no issues,, It reads the streets outloud and lets me know in plenty of time when and where to turn,, thanks again,, I love it,, My girls who will be driving in a few months have already asked if they can have it for themselves.."

"I bought this to use when I visited my daughter in Las Vegas and ended up leaving it for her because she had just moved to there. It was great! It tells you what lane to get into which is great in a big city because changing lanes isn't always so easy at the last minute. My daughter loves it too. So I bought myself another one. Then my son went on a driving trip from Michigan to Las Vegas and some other states - he also loved it. So, I bought myself another one. Then my Father came from Tennessee to Michigan and loved it. Happy Father's Day and Birthday! So, I will be buying myself another one. I wonder how my Mom will like it."

"I used this on a recent business trip to Kentucky and unfortunately it did not give the best performance. It never gave the same direction twice so to get to the office, each day became a sightseeing adventure that I had no time for.
Also the case for the unit had a broken zipper so I had to find another small pouch to put it in,

"I have this GPS and I love it. Please disregard the comment that says that the system does not speak. I thought the same thing--mine is broken! But, since the box stated that it was text to speech, I made one simple 2 min call to the customer service number they provided. Guess what? The system comes with several different voices and some voices do not speak. They instructed me on which voices to choose if I wanted the speech and with 2 quick clicks it was all set. It has been a life saver for me since I am directionally challenged and my son plays travel baseball!
I gave the system 4 stars because I do agree with the comment that stated that it sometimes takes a little while to warm up."

"I am a bit surprised at the negative comments. I bought mine before Christmas and I am very pleased. I noticed some reviews sated that street names are not given but on mine they are, so not sure what is up with that. Maybe the voice selected for the text to speech feature, I seem to recall something in the instructions about that. I have used this many times and have never had a problem. It has always taken me right where I wanted to go. Last week a few friends met me at a sporting event and we decided to go out to eat after at a local resturant. I was the only one that had never been there before and also the only one that didn't get lost driving from the stadium to it, thanks to my TomTom. Not sure how I ever got buy without it."

"This is by far the best GPS system I've used. You have to set the preferences to a computer voice to get the text to speech, a recorded voice will NOT speak the road names..
Unlike Garmin which constantly says "Recalculating" when you make a wrong turn, the TomTom XL is right on it.. switches over seamlessly to the new route and gets you back around where you need to be.
I would recommend TomTom to anyone! Easy to use (if you read the directions 1st) and updates are quick and easy via computer. I would also recommend getting the traffic update wire too, it will reroute you in case there is heavy/backed up traffic on your route..and the traffic update is free.. you just have to buy the wire :)"

"This device didn't even have my home address right. It was off by a couple of blocks on a few local addresses. I gave it 2 stars because it is very easy to use, but the maps are off. I am sending it back."

"We had been debating getting a GPS and decided to purchaset the TomTom XL330S about a month ago. I have friends with both TomTom and Garmin, but I've had more exposure to an older TomTom, and was impressed with its capability.
When the unit came in, the first thing I did was hook it up to my PC via the included USB cable, and performed all of the free downloads recommended. This gave me the latest maps, as well as the computer voice Samantha.
Looking at the size of the data file for Samantha's voice, it was MUCH larger than the other voices that were included right out of the box. For those who had issues with the unit not announcing street names and numbers, I wonder if they took the time to perform the downloads. We've used the unit on three trips, and each time, highway exit numbers/descriptions were called out, as well as street names and numbers. Each time, we reached our destination without a problem.
My only complaints are that it seems to take a long time to turn the unit on. I have to hold the power button down for approx 15 seconds to get it to power up. The other complaint regards the windshield mount. The bracket mounts very easily to the windshield, but getting the GPS to then snap into the bracket is a little clumsy, when reaching across the dashboard.
I have contacted TomTom support twice regarding newbie questions, and they have been quick to respond."

"This has been the best device that I have ever purchased at such an excellent price! The shipping & handling is free and you cannot get that offer anywhere. My husband and I drive quite often. I tend to get lost very easily as well as my husband. We would get frustrated quite often because of our stubbornness to ask for directions or admit that we are lost. This was the perfect solution! We now drive happily."
