"I purchased this TomTom to replace an old model Garmin Street Pilot. There were a few things about the Garmin I wasn't crazy about, and I wanted to see if the TomTom improved on them. What I found:
1) Takes *forever* to find satellites, even if I turn it on daily.
2) Even though I have checked all the settings multiple times to make sure they are very straightforward, I still get very off-the-wall, one-off comments from the device that, if I didn't know where I was going, would get me lost at best and cause an accident at worst. And most annoyingly, when you get these random, bizarre messages about making a U-turn or taking a sudden turn (which is just plain wrong), they often keep *repeating*, over and over again, i.e. the device doesn't 'learn' what you're doing like the Garmin does and re-route you. It's as if, when you change your route (maybe miss a turn or something), instead of getting you back on track with a change in instructions, the 'brain' of the TomTom gets fried and gets stuck in "go back, go back!" mode. Totally annoying.
I purchased the unit just at a time when I had a family emergency and my own health took a turn for the worse, so I was not physically or emotionally able to return it within the 30 days, or I would have returned it.
Nothing but Garmins for me from now on. I have a new one on order."
