"I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my husband 2008. It has only worked twice and TomTom has replaced it twice. It still doesn't work! I finally called QVC directly and they were wonderful and issued a full refund for us. QVC has wonderful customer service. I am sending this back to QVC and not really sure if I will try another brand but If I do it will be through QVC and no one else.

"I travel every day (my job) and have found the TomTom to be the most reliable GPS unit on the market. I purchased this unit (it's my 2nd one, first one from QVC, too, 2 years ago) and have found it to be extremely reliable...it's correct at least 95% of the time. I suggest doing the FREE updates on your TomTom every month or so. It keeps the newly constructed roads loaded into your GPS, consistently. If you make a wrong turn it recalibrates itself, automatically, and gives you new directions immediately! The graphics are very clear and easy to see, and the Text to Speech is very clear and gives plenty of notice for turns, lane changes and off ramps.I love this GPS! I'll stay with TomTom!"

"I purchased the Tom Tom last October as a TSV and saved opening the package until this month (April) in order to use it to navigate our family trip south to the beach for spring break. The unreliabilty of this product caused me a lot of angry tears as the Tom Tom directed me into nonexistent turns on busy highways and told me to turn right or left at a few seconds notice. Many times it simply lost its way - loss of signal?? I turned it off and used the map I printed off the computer."

Always Lost Satellite

"I got lost twice because this item couldn't find the satellite connection. It happened more than twice but these two incidents made my mind up to return it. The weather was even nice out not raining no clouds. Maybe I need a higher up model. This one just didn't deliver anything I was expecting. Hope there are not any more like the one I had. I was so disappointed."

"This is the first time I ever wrote a review. I purchased this when it was a TSV. It worked in the beginning, and then it said I should do an update. I put it on my computer, and I kept getting a big red X on the Tom Tom screen and it would not do anything. I called Tom Tom and they gave me a web site. So I had a computer tech work on it with me for 1/2 hour and we could not get it to change at all. I sent it back for a replacement, and was given credit. I called QVC and then they did send me a replacement for the TSV price. This one worked. I took it with me to a computer tech. and had them do everything with me when I attached it to the comuter for update. We followed all directions, and I went home. That night I turned it on, but could not turn it off. Again I called the company, and they gave me a web site. Again it did not work. Sent it back. Am afraid to try again.
It seems to work until it gets connected to the Apple laptop. and I have friends who have updated on their Apple laptop with no problems."

"I purchased this TomTom to replace an old model Garmin Street Pilot. There were a few things about the Garmin I wasn't crazy about, and I wanted to see if the TomTom improved on them. What I found:
1) Takes *forever* to find satellites, even if I turn it on daily.
2) Even though I have checked all the settings multiple times to make sure they are very straightforward, I still get very off-the-wall, one-off comments from the device that, if I didn't know where I was going, would get me lost at best and cause an accident at worst. And most annoyingly, when you get these random, bizarre messages about making a U-turn or taking a sudden turn (which is just plain wrong), they often keep *repeating*, over and over again, i.e. the device doesn't 'learn' what you're doing like the Garmin does and re-route you. It's as if, when you change your route (maybe miss a turn or something), instead of getting you back on track with a change in instructions, the 'brain' of the TomTom gets fried and gets stuck in "go back, go back!" mode. Totally annoying.

"I have no complaints about the actual GPS unit, but it is unusable because I can't get the suction cup to adhere to my windshield. I end up having to hold the unit in my lap because it won't stick to the glass. I almost never use it now because of this flaw and it's too late to return it. I would buy another unit with a different mounting system if I could."

"I got this for my husband as an anniversary gift in December. We took a vacation to Colorado from South Texas and was a great help. It showed us restaurants and nearby hotels. It tells us exacly were to turn and have options on which route to take. Even if you miss your turn it will tell what road to take next. Great product."

"bought the tomtom for my husband for xmas..was happy to get easy pay6payments..loved it when we used it..was easy to setup and easy to use..
sad to say it didnt last til payments are done..its broken and i dont have any way to find out how to fix it..went to use it the other day..it says no satalite found,
then wheni went to turn it off ..it turns itself back on..i gave up and now the battery is dead.. i am sad..it worked so wonderful and was very helpful while it lasted,,but now its broken.. can anyone help me fix it ?
i love all the stuff i get from qvc.. but am dissappointed in tomtom..i have 3 payments left..and its broken :(

"I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She could get lost in the backyard if left alone. :) Seriously, she loves this!
She and I also went to a town recently that neither of us drive in and it directed us to a popular shopping area as well as to our hotel - no problem.
Everybody needs one of these! My daughter carries hers in her purse so she's never without it."

"I bought as a gift to my husband for Christmas. We are all excited about it. But is was definetly not what we expected. It was complicated to use. Also, it wouldn't take us to our home it would also tell us to go the opposite way of which we lived. Also we were hoping to just enter in a Business and it would locate the nearest one for us, but this one wouldn't do that. We have returned the product for our money back. The screen was easy to read but, overall I wasn't happy with this product at all!!!"

"I have been trying to figure this system out since I received it for Christmas. I am not electronically illiterate but this item is very confusing. I cannot figure out how to delete certain items. My own address goes to the next town. Very difficult to use. It may go back."

"I ordered this Tom Tom GPS to replace a Megellan that is 1 1/2 years old and wanted updated maps. The Magellan maps are not current and because there has been so much development in Delaware, it does not have many of the places that I wanted to go. The Tom Tom unit does not have bluetooth capability which the Magellan does. The Tom Tom unit is much more confusing to use. When I entered an address for it to route, I could not figure out how to delete it or even enter trips with multiple stops. The Magellan allows me to name a trip, and enter all the addresses I want to go to and save everything and I could not figure out how to do this on the Tom Tom unit. Neither unit would allow me to enter the zip code for the campground in PA, where my friend has had her trailer for almost 10 years. What's up with that? I thought that Tom Tom was supposed to be the best on the market, I don't think so. I'll be sticking with my magellan for a while longer."

"I really like the small size of this GPS, the fact that it speaks street names and doesn't cost all that much. Also, it changes to nighttime colors automatically. But it is not as good a navigational device as other brands I've used, and it can lead you on a wild goose chase--but you will get there eventually. We've found that the best way to use this thing is to do the research (on-line or through other's experiences) in advance and decide on your route, then program the desination into the TomTom, turn the volume low and use it to check if confusion develops. I'm not at all impressed with the TomTom's stand-alone navigational capabilities -- it got us lost in our own city!"

"Bought this for my husband for Christmas because he can't stand being lost. I always use maps and thought a GPS was a silly expense. I was wrong, I'm on here now looking to buy a second, identical unit for my car. We live in a rural area and this thing is amazing, it shows every cow path and back road. Unless you mute it you get plenty of vocal prompts about upcoming turns and lane changes and by the way it does announce the name of the road where you should turn. What really hooked me was that when you are on a freeway it tells you to stay to the right or left you always know if the exit is from the right lane or if you need to be in the left lane to exit. If you know where you are and decide to go a different road than planned it just recalculates your route without having to reprogram. Really love it."

"What a life saver this has been. Got this for my son who is the typical male when it comes to directions. Hears only the first part and then believes he can figure out the rest as he goes along. WRONG.......He is no longer lost as this Tom Tom has done a magnificent job. Hooks nicely in vehicle and volume is loud enough to hear directions. The carrying case is such a nice feature. He really likes the fact that you can veer off your course if you need to and Tom Tom will automatically recalculate and get you back on track. Also like the ability to choose different voices to get you where you need to go. One little tip: If you choose an English accent you do not get the street names given ahead. When you switch back to USA it immediately begins to announce the names of each street you need to turn on to. One of the reasons this was purchased was the the QVC presenter stated that it gives more map updates than other brands, but failed to say that you that you have to pay for these updates. This was a bit misleading but all in all this is the only feature that is not great. We are very pleased with this unit and the price was great. It does the job !!!!!"

"Let me preface my comments by saying that this is my third GPS system. There is nothing wrong with the others (Cobra and Magellan) except for the fact that there are no further map updates for them. Hence, my reason for purchasing this item. It has to be the worst GPS ever made by TomTom, who I understand are supposed to be the masters when it comes to the GPS. This item had no idea where we were. Fortunately, I did. I took it to work with me, knowing full well what route I'd be taking. Thank goodness I didn't try to use it when trying to locate a place I had never been to before. And, this is a biggee for me...it doesn't announce street names. It just states something like, "bear/turn left in 600 feet." What does 600 feet look like when you're in a strange place? This is being packed up and shipped back as soon as possible."

"I own a Garmin and love it. I wanted to buy my husband his own so he would not have to borrow mine all the time. He insisted he wanted a Tom Tom because it was the one advertised on tv the most and he felt it would be better than mine. WELL it wasnt. The directions were horrible the charge didnt last long either. I returned it and ordered a Garmin. I will follow my own instincts for now on. I quess the folks that were happy with the Tom Tom never used a Gps or just never used a Garmin."
